February 5, 2025
The following assessment was completed for Steel Dynamics, Inc. The position that was assessed was a Ladle Crane Operator. Workers in this position are seated for ~12 hours per shift, and they are in charge of operating the crane via joysticks. The long hours combined with the repetitive movement and awkward postures, displayed areas of concern that could be corrected via ergonomic intervention.
The process included interviewing the worker about any pain or fatigue experienced when completing work tasks, observing the worker complete work tasks, correspondence with health and safety departments, and research on how to improve the working conditions.
Please see the linked documents that include the completed assessment and report of Ladle Crane Operators and how to improve their work conditions.
